New Episodes Of Beavis And Butt-Head Announced
The two most influential music critics of the ’90s are back. The New York Times reports that two new seasons of Beavis And Butt-Head, the beloved and reviled ’90s MTV cartoon, are coming to television. Creator Mike Judge has been enlisted to write, produce, and voice the new episodes. According to a press release, the show will feature the iconic metalhead idiots “entering a whole new Gen Z world,” which is weird to think about.
The original Beavis And Butt-Head ran for seven seasons on MTV between 1993 and 1997, with an additional season in 2011. It also spun off a successful movie, 1996’s Beavis And Butt-Head Do America. In more recent years, the characters have returned to cackle over videos from Battles and Portugal. The Man. In its big return, Beavis And Butt-Head will no longer air on MTV. Instead, it’s got a new home on Comedy Central.
Comedy Central hasn’t yet announced when the new seasons will debut, but this seems like the rare TV show that could be produced during quarantine without any significant adjustments. The network’s deal with Judge also includes possible spinoffs and specials — a pretty big deal when you consider that Daria, an iconic show in its own right, started off life as a Beavis And Butt-Head spinoff. (Daria is getting its own newly announced spinoff, Jodie, starring Tracee Ellis Ross as Daria’s friend and new college graduate Jodie Landon.) In a statement, Judge says, “It seemed like the time was right to get stupid again.”
In that same vaguely terrifying press release, Comedy Central claims that the new series will deal with “meta-themes relatable to both new and old fans — Gen X parents and their Gen Z kids.” So: Beavis in a Trippie Redd shirt?
