Nelly has been cast as Chuck Berry in Clear Lake, Driving Miss Daisy director Bruce Beresford's upcoming biopic about rock and roll pioneer Buddy Holly. Holly, who will be played in the movie by Irish actor Ruairi O’Connor, died along with Ritchie Valens, J.P. Richardson, and pilot Roger Peterson in a plane crash outside Clear Lake, Iowa on February 3, 1959.
Colin Hanks and Diane Guerrero have also joined the cast, according to The Hollywood Reporter. They will play Norman Petty, Holly's manager and producer, and Holly's wife Maria Elena Holly, respectively. The real Maria Elena Holly is an associate producer on the film, which will focus on Holly's 1958 Biggest Show Of Stars tour with Little Anthony & The Imperials' Clarence Collins.
