Shut Up, Dude: This Week’s Best Comments

Shut Up, Dude: This Week’s Best Comments

This New Music Friday had some surprises: Toro y Moi, TV Star, Earl Sweatshirt x the Alchemist, Full Of Hell x Gasp, and no Drake — congrats, dogs.

There's some mysterious problem with our best comments generator today, but I found some workarounds so we don't break our 600+ week streak of publishing this column. Couldn't figure out avatars, but I got the rest 'cause you Members deserve this data. Check out the countdown below.

How perfect - as of today I'm all caught up with this column, and I get a Firework to celebrate! It took me two years off and on, because I decided to read every entry and listen to everything, in chronological order. It's been a real blast, including some rough spots where I really didn't like much of the actual music - 2000-2005 for example reminded me why I pretty much tuned out of pop music a that point. But the columns were always interesting regardless, and sometimes they sparked a new appreciation for music I just didn't "get" before. Thanks Tom, and looking forward to the years ahead!

You would think that a company like Meta would have some vested interest in not allowing people to use their platform to commit fraud, but yet they are so uninterested in preventing it that this guy can boldly declare that he will continue to do this over and over again, and no one will stop him. And he's right.

The world is a Thom Yorke song.

I know it's the understatement of the millennium calling platforming antisemitism 'an unforced error', but she handled it in a way that's at best confused and short-sighted and at worst yeeting a gallon of gasoline on the fire and making people wonder how okay she is being associated with bigoted beliefs.

Especially considering how her entire image up to this point was as as this committed, intelligent Socialist who came at other rappers for their blind spots and biases, and no amount of hemming and hawing about 'messiness' can resolve how jarring and hypocritical a move it is.

Well this took a depressing if not altogether unsurprising turn near the end. Rachel made an important point that he responded to with some incoherent nonsense about bathrooms and AI. Not sure how to break the grip that all of this wild misinformation has on boomers or if it's even worth trying.

The packed crowds, the energy in the air, the latent antisemitism, the open contempt from the performer. This is what live music's all about.

Hopefully she'll check out 21 Jump Street before this tour so that she can get some perspective on antisemitism.

Is Kyrie Irving still booked to an open?
