The Boston emoviolence band New Forms have been around since at least 2019, but their Bandcamp page jolted back to life in a big way in 2023. All year they’ve been slowly, steadily releasing fast, frantic screamo tracks, leading up to last week’s release of debut album As Dust Collects. It’s one of those albums that plays out like a series of nonstop detonations for 15 minutes straight. Despite the constant presence of a rhythmic center in their music, New Forms play with an off-the-rails ferocity that makes the songs feel like they’re spinning out of control in the best way.
