Shut Up, Dude: This Week’s Best Comments

Stereogum is at Austin's Cheer Up Charlies right now presenting performances by Narrow Head, the Armed, Horse Jumper Of Love, and many more great bands — plus we just added sets by Scowl and Glare! The free, all-ages party started at 12:04 PM, right after we spun "Archie, Marry Me," and will end after 2AM. See you there!

Spent summer 2013 locked up for bullshit drug charges in Florida with only a small portable radio between me and insanity. It fucking sucked missing out on Yeezus with only a few radio stations I could get reception for mostly adult contemporary and top 40.

This song was absolutely everywhere on the radio and honestly it may have been Stockholm syndrome but even as someone who doesn't particularly like Pink or Fun I never got tired of hearing this song, I guess I'm a sucker for the classic pop trope of a breakfast duet.

Good song, solid 8/10, but the song that really kept alive that summer was Get Lucky, I fell out of my bunk bed the first time I heard it on the radio out of shock of hearing Draft Punk on top 40, then was evenpleasantly surprised when it became the certified song of the summer, should have went number 1!

2013 was a great year for musi, I'll never forget my first day of freedom after 6 months when I got to listen to Yeezus and Nothing was the Same and Random Access Memories and discover the hot new indie acts Lorde and Chvrches and HAIM all in 24 hours. Damn I miss the old Kanye

And Flying Up The Modern Rock Charts On Its Way To Peaking at No.7… do do do uh, do da-do uh, it’s Suzanne Vega. Or as it says on the cover, D.N.A. with Suzanne Vega, who did little more than splice the Soul II Soul beat underneath the Suzanne’s original acapella recording, and added some moody synths.

Do do do uh, do da-do uh.

D.N.A., it needs to be emphasized, is not the same outfit as the late 70s no-wave band, although I’m pretty sure that a lot of people have made that mistake. They were just some house-music boffins from the UK.

Do do do uh, do da-do uh.

There’s a real Tom’s Diner. Actually it’s Tom’s Restaurant. It’s at 2880 Broadway, across the road from Central Park. It may in fact be the most famous restaurant in the world. Not just for setting the scene for Tom’s Diner, but because… wait for it… oh, you probably already know this, why am I building this up… or maybe you don’t… okay, here it is… it’s the Seinfeld restaurant!

Or at least the outside is. The inside looks much different.

Do do do uh, do da-do uh.

Naturally, on my one visit to New York, I had to go. We also went to the Soup Nazi, where the service was disappointingly pleasant. The service at Tom’s Diner/Restaurant was also disappointingly attentive. The only negative feedback I have for them is that they use way too much packaging. Like a bought a burger, and they put it in a bag, then that bag was put in a second bag, which was put in a third bag… and we were eating in!

Do do do uh, do da-do uh.

Having a Suzanne Vega dance record was obviously weird, and Suzanne was asked about it. “Well, you know” she answered “I like to dance.” Obvious follow up question then, what was the most recent record she’d danced to. “Lloyd Cole” she said.

But of course it was.

Do do do uh, do da-do uh.

“Tom’s Diner” is a 10.

She’s completely right of course, and when the 100 or so burner accounts that start with “well actually…” show up it’ll only reinforce her argument.

The therapy pop trend is so so dire and the biggest tell that it's all bullshit is how inevitably the astrology stuff gets folded into it. Like I'm sorry girl you did not grow as a person or attain any psychological insight, you took at THC gummy and scrolled wellness Instagram for two hours.

Celebrating 14yrs of marriage this weekend, I don’t think I could have made it this long without this sweet golden ale and short term memory. Wishing a great Spring Break to all who celebrate, you never have to grow old 🍀
