They announced the Oscar nominees this morning, but this being a music blog, I'm only gonna list the contenders for Best Original Song.
"In the Deep" from Crash
Music by Kathleen "Bird" York and Michael Becker; Lyric by Kathleen "Bird" York"It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" from Hustle & Flow
Music and Lyric by Jordan Houston, Cedric Coleman and Paul Beauregard"Travelin' Thru" from Transamerica
Music and Lyric by Dolly Parton
I guess it wasn't a stellar year for cinema sounds. Hopefully PT Anderson's got something up his sleeve, and we'll see an Aimee Mann/Phil Collins rematch in '07.
Also there's a part in March of the Penguins that sounds like Tortoise's "Ten-Day Interval," but that's neither here nor there.
For those who care, see the whole list of nominees here. Brokeback Mountain = must-see or overrated?
