The Philadelphia-based musician Nina Ryser is a longtime fixture on the DIY scene. She was one third of Palberta, and now she plays drums in @, among other things. Ryser also releases her own solo music; she came out with her EP I Miss My Dog last year. Now, Ryser is announcing a new solo album called Water Giants, and she’s shared its first single.

Nina Ryser recorded Water Giants at home with producer Lucas Knapp. The album features contributions from plenty of Ryser’s collaborators, including @’s Victoria Rose and Nino Soberon, as well as Gabe Adels, Ryser’s husband and her partner in the synthpop duo Data. Lead single “Things I Claim” is an off-kilter experimental pop song that reminds me of a more discordant version of the Blow. Remember the Blow? They were so good.
