Soccer Mommy – “M”
In June, Soccer Mommy’s Sophie Allison performed a handful of brand-new songs at an intimate show in Queens, including the single “Lost,” which she released shortly thereafter. Turns out, those new tracks are part of a new album called Evergreen, arriving this October. Another single called “M” is out today.
Allison wrote Evergreen in the wake of a particularly painful loss in her personal life. After recruiting Oneohtrix Point Never’s Daniel Lopatin to produce 2022’s Sometimes, Forever, Evergreen is billed as a return to her more homespun roots, just on a larger scale. “M” is a good example of that, layering all types of guitars in a way that feels big and textured without overdoing it. Lyrically, it’s a bittersweet song about ruminating on something or someone that isn’t present anymore, for better or for worse. Listen to it below.
