After a huge run with boygenius, Julien Baker is back to playing solo shows, and she’s debuting new songs. On Sunday night, however, Baker wasn’t able to finish her set at New York’s Webster Hall. She was sick, and she rushed offstage mid-show. Baker’s boygenius bandmate Lucy Dacus came out to deliver the bad news that Baker couldn’t keep performing. Talking to the crowd, Dacus said that Baker was already asking, “What can we do for these people?” (She said it in a Julien Baker voice and everything. It was funny.) Soon afterward, Baker and Dacus did something for these people.

After getting sick on Sunday, Baker was scheduled to play another set at New York’s Webster Hall on Monday. It wasn’t clear that she’d be able to do it, but Baker soon announced that she was feeling better, that the Monday show was still on, and that she’d play a Tuesday night make-up show for all the people who came out to see her on Sunday night. The make-up gig would be at Brooklyn Steel, and it would feature “a surprise interlude by a special guest.” That guest turned out to be Lucy Dacus, the person who had to deliver the bad news in the first place.

At Brooklyn Steel on Tuesday night, Lucy Dacus played a surprise six-song acoustic set. She played her songs “Hot & Heavy,” “VBS,” and “Trust.” Then, she wished the crowd a happy International Lesbian Day and said she wanted to play a new song, which was “dedicated to lesbians.” She proceeded to debut as as-yet-untitled new song about falling in love. After Dacus played that new song, Julien Baker joined her onstage. Together with Baker’s band, they did two more Lucy Dacus songs, “Going Going Gone” and “Night Shift.” The same fan filmed those songs, too. Check out those videos below.
