Green Day Reissuing Dookie On Toothbrush, Floppy Disk, Teddy Ruxpin, And Other Inconvenient Formats
Some say Dookie is among the best albums in pop-punk history, but after 30 years, I sure wish I could spice things up a bit. I want to hear the anthemic vocal harmonies of “Welcome To Paradise” compressed into a tinny 8-bit jingle. I want to dust off my old precarious phonograph just to hear the guitar riffs of “When I Come Around.” I want that fat, glorious bassline of “Longview” reduced to nothing more than the chime of a doorbell.
Some celebrate three decades of their most iconic album with an updated hi-fi remaster, but Green Day are honoring 30 years of Dookie with Dookie Demastered, a collection of 15 formats that together allow you to listen to the album in some of the most inconvenient ways imaginable. Each track on the album correlates to an object — many of which are near obsolete — that will play some semblance of its song. There’s a toothbrush, a floppy disc, a Teddy Ruxpin, and more that will be an absolute pain in the ass to listen to. Will it sound good? Absolutely not. Will you even be able to hear the whole song? Unlikely. But is it kind of funny? Yeah, I guess so. Who’s the sellout now?
