Yesterday, we lost the irreplaceable heavy metal icon Ozzy Osborne. Everyone from Lady Gaga to Dave Matthews Band is paying their respect to the late Black Sabbath frontman. Another musician paying tribute and mourning a lost opportunity to play with the legend is drummer Zak Starkey.
In an Instagram post, Starkey shared an old message from Sharon Osborne asking if he would play with Black Sabbath for their 2012 Lollapalooza slot, along with a kinky request. It reads:
Zak,
Black Sabbath is headlining Download on June 10 and then Lollapalooza in August. The guys need a drummer for their album, which will be recorded in September with Rick Rubin producing. We would probably need you for 2-3 weeks for the album. Also, they need a drummer to play at Lollapalooza which is on August 3 in Chicago. Also, Ozzy wants to have sex with you while he is singing Iron Man.
Big Kiss,
Sharon
Far Out pointed out that Starkey was dealing with a tendon issue in 2013, which may or may not have been why Starkey declined the request.
In his caption, Starkey wrote: "Regrets I’ve had a few - this is one - (not the sex part!) Ozzy will always be one of the greatest, natural, brilliant singers of all time. I send much love and strength to his family at this sad sad time. If u aren’t familiar with the never say die record - get into it - it’s so far out - X." In Starkey's absence, Sabbath went with Brad Wilk of Rage Against The Machine/Audioslave in the studio and Tommy Clufetos on tour.
Starkey, the son of Ringo Starr, was recently fired from his gig with the Who, a commitment that caused him to pass on the chance to rejoin Oasis for their reunion tour. Presumably he'll end up drumming with some noteworthy rock band soon because a lot of them have vacancies behind the kit right now, with Pearl Jam recently added to the list.
