The upcoming Beatles biopics have cast their first non-Beatle. We've been hearing about director Sam Mendes' upcoming Beatles movies -- four of them, one for every Beatle -- for a while now. Earlier this year, Mendes confirmed that all four pictures are set to open in April 2028, with Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson and John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan and Ringo Starr. Now, four-time Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan has joined the cast as Linda McCartney, Paul's wife and Wings bandmante.
Saoirse Ronan's casting hasn't been officially announced. According to Deadline, though, multiple sources claim that she'll play the role. Ronan will presumably play a big role in the Paul McCartney movie, and it seems likely that she'll be in the other films in some capacity. Ronan, like future screen husband Paul Mescal, is from Ireland, and they're about the same age. (Ronan is two years older, while the real Linda, an American, was about a year older than Paul.) Previously, Ronan and Mescal starred together in the widely panned 2023 sci-fi movie Foe.
The whole idea of these intertwined Beatle biopics still seems deeply dubious, but it has definitely attracted a heavyweight cast. Saoirse Ronan is one of the best, most acclaimed actors of her generation, and Mendes has her in what appears to be a supporting role. They better not fuck this up!
