Here's something weird: Big Thief's album Double Infinity came out about four months ago. Maybe it's just me, but that album already feels like it's 52 years old. In any case, Big Thief guitarist Buck Meek just announced his new solo LP The Mirror, and if you're not into that, you must be a Buck Freak.
Like all of his Big Thief bandmates, Buck Meek puts out occasional solo records. His most recent album was 2023's Haunted Mountain. Big Thief drummer James Krivchenia produced Meek's upcoming record The Mirror, and Adrianne Lenker sings backup, so this one is a full Big Thief family affair. It's also got more modular synth action than past Meek joints, as well as contributions from peers like Mary Lattimore, Jolie Holland, and Meek's brother Dylan.
Lead single and album opener "Gasoline" is a playfully awestruck ramble about falling in love, and you can really get lost in those Adrianne Lenker backup vocals. Below, check out that song, the tracklist for The Mirror, and Buck Meek's upcoming shows.
