Slut Intent are a "hardcore girl band" from Minneapolis. On New Year's Day, they self-released their debut album, the masterfully titled Slutworld. From opening track "Peppa Pig" onward, it's so intense and so much fun.
Vocalist Katy Kelly is not afraid to rip her vocal cords to shreds, and her bandmates mirror her war cries by summoning absolute power from their instruments. For a such a ceaselessly aggressive band, there's a huge dynamic range here; they shift from runaway-train speed to slo-mo churn to discordant midtempo freakouts, making the transitions feel as natural and effortless as an world-class athlete's graceful body contortions. Their fury would drown out a lesser frontperson, but Kelly commands the mic with enough unbound personality to shine through the chaos.
