The Woodstock, New York singer-songwriter Storey Littleton has yet to release an album, and she's only in her early twenties, but she's basically been making music since she was old enough to talk. Littleton's parents Elizabeth Mitchell and Dan Littleton are in the long-running New York indie band Ida, and Mitchell made a series of children's records that my daughter absolutely loved when she was a baby. Storey was singing on those records and touring with her mom when she was a tiny kid, and they were so cute together, you have no idea. And now Storey is a grown-up, making music of her own! That's so beautiful! Life, man! Life!
Sorry. I'm going on a Proustian journey with this post. Given the prevalence of nepo-baby discourse, Storey Littleton would probably prefer it if I didn't just keep talking about her parents when she's got an album of her own on the way. But I just went on a whole thing of "Hmm, Storey, interesting name, like Elizabeth Mitchell's daughter, holy shit that IS Elizabeth Mitchell's daughter!" I interviewed Mitchell about her children's music for this very website in 2013, when Storey was 11. I saw Storey play live multiple times. When she was two, my daughter noticed Storey and her mom in the club before they went onstage and was like, "Look, dad, it's Elizabeth Mitchell! And Storey!" These days, Storey is still touring with her parents, playing guitar and keyboards in the reactivated Ida.
Anyway! Storey Littleton has evidently been putting her own music up on Bandcamp for a few years, and she'll release her debut album At A Diner on Don Giovanni next month. Lead single "January" starts out with an extremely fun "Leader Of The Pack"-style intro and then bursts into a lush, gorgeous piece of singer-songwriter pop. Mikaela Davis plays harp on the song, and Chris DeVille points out that it's got serious Natalie Prass vibes, which is exactly right. We need more songs with Natalie Prass vibes. Check out the Matthew Danger Lippman-directed video, as well as the clip for the At A Diner title track, which came out last year. You'll also find the At A Diner tracklist and Littleton's tour dates below.
