San Francisco's Bosse-de-Nage have been leading lights in the sweeping, emotional, experimental sound known as blackgaze since their self-titled debut came out in 2010. Two years after that, they did a split EP with a little band called Deafheaven. Bosse-de-Nage have been out of the limelight in recent years, and they haven't released an album since 2018's Further Still. That ends soon, as Bosse-de-Nage will soon return with their new LP Hidden Fires Burn Hottest.
Bosse-de-Nage have been slowly putting together some of the tracks on Hidden Fires Burn Hottest, including lead single "No Such Place," since 2018. They recorded the album with producer Jack Shirley, and Agriculture's Richard Chowenhill did the mixing and mastering. The band went for something looser and more expansive on the new record, and you can hear it in the guttural sprawl of "No Such Place."
In a press release, the band says, "It is perhaps the closest realization of the original vision we had for this album. All of the restrictions we placed on ourselves for Further Still have been shed like old skin, and a new form has emerged." Dig in below.
