Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” Makes Hot 100 Debut 51 Years After Release

Over five years ago, in a glorious, brief reprieve from peak COVID-era doom, a regular guy named Nathan Apodaca posted a TikTok of himself happily skateboarding while drinking cranberry juice. The viral clip was set to Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams," subsequently sending the former #1 hit back to #12 on the Billboard Top 20 over four decades after its release. Now, something similar is happening, although I don't think it involves cranberry juice or skateboarding or a pandemic. After a sync in the Dec. 31 series finale of Stranger Things, Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" has entered the Hot 100, somehow for the very first time.

Written by Stevie Nicks and initially released on Fleetwood Mac's 1975 self-titled album, "Landslide" just debuted at #41 on the Billboard Hot 100. (The beloved 1997 live version got up to #51 upon its release, but this is the first time the original studio version is doing chart numbers.) Expectedly, TikTok is already booming with an avalanche of sentimental clips set to "Landslide," which was also famously covered by the Chicks and Smashing Pumpkins among others.

The "Landslide" revival is far from the first time Fleetwood Mac has seen a resurgence in delayed interest: Aside from "Dreams," which has had multiple viral moments in the social media age, a great archival video of Nicks singing "Silver Springs" while staring at Lindsey Buckingham has racked up three million likes and counting on TikTok. Then, somebody uploaded a TikTok sound mashing up "Silver Springs" with Billy Joel's "Piano Man," which now serves as the basis of a huge trend. The mashup drives me nuts even if some of the videos are sweet.

And the hype isn't just online! Rumours, the album whose sessions yielded "Dreams" and "Silver Springs," was America's best-selling rock album in 2024 and was the #5 album overall in the UK in the final week of 2025.
