Charlotte Cornfield and Merge Records are a match made in heaven, and this March they'll team up to release Hurts Like Hell. Cornfield, the veteran Canadian singer-songwriter, has signed to the venerable North Carolina indie label for the follow-up to 2023's Could Have Done Anything. The lead single and title track is out now with a music video by Scott Jacobson.
Cornfield recorded the album with producer Philip Weinrobe at his studio Sugar Mountain. They recruited some impressive guest vocalists including Feist, Christian Lee Hutson, Maia Friedman, and Big Thief's Buck Meek, whose voice can be heard on "Hurts Like Hell." The Hurts Like Hell house band included Palehound’s El Kempner (guitar/vocals), Lake Street Dive’s Bridget Kearney (bass/vocals), Adam Brisbin (guitar/pedal steel), and Sean Mullins (drums). Núria Graham (piano) and Daniel Pencer (saxophone) were also in the mix.
