Souled American Announce First New Album In 30 Years Sanctions: Hear “Boom Boom”

Souled American are the epitome of the phrase "cult favorite." During their years releasing music — a prolific six-album run between 1988 and 1996 — the Chicago duo played a part in developing the burgeoning alt-country scene and eventually steered their sound in an ambient direction, earning praise from everyone from Jim O'Rourke to Counting Crows in the process. The band continued to exist in the 2000s, playing a few shows and teasing a seventh album, but nothing materialized. Now, 30 years after 1996's Notes Campfire, it's finally coming out.

The new Souled American album is called Sanctions. It's due in April via Jealous Butcher, and its lead single "Boom Boom" is out now. The song is a rootsy dirge that reveals how much these guys influenced Chicago peers like Califone and Wilco. Check out Jeff Economy's video below.
