Savages Share Previously Unreleased Black Sabbath Cover & Original “Prayer” For Adore Life 10th Anniversary

Antoine Carlier

Adore Life, the second and final album from the explosive UK post-punk band Savages, came out 10 years ago today. Dang — has it really been that long since this crew was out there blowing minds? To mark the anniversary, Savages have shared two previously unreleased tracks from the Adore Life era: an elegant, transformative cover of Black Sabbath's timeless "Paranoid" and a smoldering original ballad called "Prayer" that feels like a link in the chain between Siouxsie And The Banshees and Porridge Radio.

The band offers these words along with the music:

Celebrating 10 years of ‘Adore Life,’ we’re sharing with you two unreleased songs that never made it onto the albums. We left them exactly as they were – no retakes, no remixing. What you’ll hear is precisely how they were first recorded. To us, they feel like snapshots of a moment in time, and while we’ve never been ones to dwell too much on nostalgia we felt these songs offered a fresh perspective on the band, or at the very least – a gentle reminder of its magic. Enjoy the music and video. It is our gift to you.

Happy Birthday to ‘Adore Life.’ What a record. What a time.

– Ayse, Fay, Gemma & Jehnny

Matador Records founder Chris Lombardi adds:

When Savages delivered the ‘Adore Life’ artwork, they really captured the feeling of the music contained within. A giant fist of a record. It’s visceral and taut much like their incendiary live shows. This record reminds that Savages were the REAL DEAL.

Listen below.

Savages played right before Radiohead at Primavera Sound 2016, and my blurb about their set began, "Go see Savages in concert and not only will you be convinced they are the greatest live band in the world, you might also forget other bands even exist." I miss them.
