Armbruster Announces New Album Half My House: Hear “King Under The River”

The Troy, New York composer Troy Armbruster is a member of the expansive indie folk band Blue Ranger, and he also makes free-floating, decaying instrumental music on his own. Armbruster impressed us with his 2024 album Can I Sit Here, and now he's announcing an exploratory new LP called Half My House.

To record Half My House, Troy Armbruster and his Blue Ranger bandmates spent a week at the Elizabeth Murray farmhouse in Granville, New York. Most of the tracks are meditative takes on the traditional Irish folk songs that Armbruster heard growing up, and he and his collaborators used fiddle, mandolin, bouzouki, guitar, piano, and bass to deconstruct those songs. Lead single "King Under The Original" is one of the album's only originals, and it doesn't sound much like any version of Irish folk that I ever heard. Listen below.

TRACKLIST:
01 "The Eagle's Whistle"
02 "King Under the River"
03 "Caisleán Na Nór"
04 "The Wounded Hussar"
05 "Within A Mile of Dublin / The Ten Pound Float"
06 "The Jolly Tinker"
07 "The Snow Hole"
08 "Uncle Rat"

Half My House is out 2/27; pre-order it here.
