Last year, the jangly Montreal indie-pop band Prism Shores caught our attention with their album Out From Underneath. Now, they've already got another full-length ready to drop. This spring, Prism Shores will release Softest Attack, the new LP that they recorded with Preoccupations/Ribbon Skirt collaborator Scott “Monty” Munro. That title is half-right. The album's opening track does attack, but it's not all that soft.
Softest Attack kicks off with a fast, giddy sha-la-la power-pop attack called "Kid Gloves." All of the band members sing on it, and their overlapping harmonies come out what I guess I'd call a fired-up sigh. There's a bit fo shoegaze swoosh in all the effects-heavy guitars, but this is trebley, energetic music that owes a whole lot more to the OG twee bands of the '80s and '90s. Below, check out "Kid Gloves" and the Softest Attack tracklist.
