In the hardcore word, the swagged-out, metallic San Diego band Mizery were omnipresent in the '10s. They could pop up at any show and whip up some absolute chaos. It's been nearly a decade since Mizery released Absolute Light, their sole full-length, and they haven't put out any music since then. In 2023, drummer Cayle Sain, a linchpin of the California hardcore world, passed away suddenly at the age of 31, and Mizery had no plans to continue after that. But now, thanks to the discovery of some unheard Cayle drum tracks, there's another Mizery record on the way.
Before Sain's death, his bandmates sent him pre-production demos for some new Mizery tracks. They didn't realize that he'd actually gone into the studio to lay down professionally recorded drum parts for those tracks. When they found out, Mizery's members worked with producer Taylor Young, Sain's bandmate in Twitching Tongues, to turn those demos into a proper record, a self-titled EP that drops next month.
Today, Mizery have shared a nasty groove-stomp track called "The Weapon Pt. II," which has a video that frontman José Luna directed. Check it out below, along with the Mizery tracklist and the band's upcoming live shows.
