Anjimile – “Waits For Me”

Xander Opiyo

Anjimile, the North Carolina singer-songwriter who makes deeply introspective indie folk, will release his new Brad Cook-produced album You're Free To Go next month. Anjimile has a knack for making simple concepts feel massive: He said that lead single "Like You Really Mean It," for example, was born out of a desire to kiss his girlfriend. Today's new single "Waits For Me" expands on the pop-psych concept of healing your inner child, which in Anjimile's case gets into some real emotionally complex territory: "When I was a little girl I wanted to be free/ I wanted to be all of the things my mother wanted me to be," he sings over a gentle instrumental. "When I was a little boy I wanted to be real/ I wanted to feel all of the things my body wanted me to feel."
