Guided By Voices’ Doug Gillard Announces New Solo Album Parallel Stride: Hear “Face Of Smiles”

Because putting out a million albums with Guided By Voices isn't enough, the band's guitarist Doug Gillard is announcing a new solo record. Parallel Stride arrives in April, and we're getting a taste with the lead single "Face Of Smiles."

About the song, Gillard says, "Disparate imagery converges to tell the story of someone experiencing a sense of loss. The other person’s awareness of astronomical events sparks a similar curiosity in the narrator, who also happened to come up with a weird riff that morphed into an early Teenage Fanclub-type groove."

He adds about the accompanying video:

The video captures a typical day wherein I commute across NYC for a recording with engineer Tom Beaujour where I’m joined by Dave Hill on bass and Ray Kubian on drums. Tom also presents me with a "Dan Smith Will Teach You Guitar" flyer in his studio, which for some reason I never saw when I recorded a lot of this album there The flyer is a long-running NYC legend, having been posted around the city for over 20 years.
