Winspear have put out some of our favorite indie rock records of the past couple of years, and now, the label have welcomed their first non-US artist to their roster. Swapmeet — Venus O’Broin (guitar, vocals), Joshua Doherty (bass), Maxwell Elphick (guitar, drums, vocals), and Jack Medlyn (guitar, drums, vocals) — are a young four-piece who met a few years ago while they were all playing in different bands together in Adelaide, Australia. They unsurprisingly cite Pavement and Sonic Youth as some of their biggest influences, and while today's new single "I Know!" leans more pop than those two bands, there's still a nice grittiness to it that makes me look forward to what Swapmeet do next.
"'I Know!' was written accidentally — a song arising from an in-between practice jam," O'Broin says in a press release. "Unlike the other songs on the album, this song kind of wrote itself. The lyrics alike arose pretty spontaneously too, without much over-analyzing or fluff. I Know! I Know! I Know! You know?"
