Philly-based punk veterans the Menzingers are in between albums right now. Some Of It Was True, their last one, came out in 2023. Since then, there's been a deluxe edition and a compilation track, and now the Menzingers have a new standalone single. Today, they've got a new standalone single that pushes them in the direction of heart-on-sleeve classic rock.
The Menzingers' new song "Nobody's Heroes" has a drum-machine beat under the actual drums here. There's triumphant saxophone. There's organ. There's a huge, brawny singalong chorus. It's like the Gaslight Anthem, if they were trying to be John Mellencamp instead of Bruce Springsteen. Frontman Greg Barnett says, "We started writing 'Nobody’s Heroes' for Tom [May, guitarist], who was going through a divorce at the time. As the song developed, it became something even bigger. ‘Nobody’s Heroes’ is the story of The Menzingers — how we’re at our best when we’re ourselves."
