Right now, it appears that Compton club-music traveler Channel Tres is on a mission to pay tribute to all the best clubby R&B tracks of the early '90s. I sincerely support him in this endeavor. A few months ago, Channel Tres released his take on the En Vogue classic "Free Your Mind." Today, he drops his new single "Medicine," which salutes Crystal Waters' immortal house-pop masterpiece "100% Pure Love."
When was the last time you listened to "100% Pure Love"? I hope it was sometime recently. If it's been a while, you should fix that. "100% Pure Love" is one of the greatest songs ever recorded. "Medicine" flips that song's chorus and general aesthetic, transforming it into something that feels both very retro and very current. My friend Nick Sylvester, a longtime Channel Tres collaborator, is in the credits as co-writer, co-producer, and engineer. Check out "Medicine" and the OG "100% Pure Love" video below.
Speaking of Nick Sylvester, are you following that guy on Instagram? Motherfucker is too funny.
And now Nick is opening an art gallery? What the fuck, man. I cannot keep up with my people. It's a fool's errand.
Channel Tres will open Miguel's show at the LA Forum 3/13, the day after Nick's Smartdumb Gallery opens. Guzzle up.
