Billie Eilish is set to make her movie acting debut. The alt-pop superstar is in advanced talks to star as lead character Esther Greenwood in Oscar-winning director Sarah Polley's adaptation of Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar, Deadline reports. Focus Features is reportedly in line to back and distribute the movie. Joy Gorman Wettels, Plan B Entertainment, and StudioCanal will produce.

Eilish previously acted in Swarm, Donald Glover and Janine Nabers' Prime Video TV series about an unhinged pop stan. She's thus far been involved in the movie business through her music, including Oscar wins for Best Original Song for her Bond theme "No Time To Die" in 2022 and her Barbie soundtrack ballad "What Was I Made For?" in 2024. According to Deadline, there are no plans in place for her to contribute music to The Bell Jar, but it's not off the table either.

In 2023 Polley won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Women Talking, which she also directed. Some of her other directorial credits include Away From Her, Take This Waltz, Stories We Tell, and the TV series Hey Lady!
