CLT DRP – “What Is She For?”

Brighton's CLT DRP haven't released anything since 2024's one-off "Until You Showed Me," but they've been touring non-stop alongside the likes of Lambrini Girls, Bob Vylan, and DITZ. That wait has not been in vain. The trio returned the other day with a fucking killer new single "What Is She For?"

With unrelenting force, CLT DRP ask some big questions, mainly inquiring how the fuck is anyone supposed to exist? "Counter culture, Is this art?/ Token checklist, feels more like sport," Annie Dorrett shouts before the chorus hits: "I am tired of keeping score/ What is a woman, What is she for." Guitars squirm and rage. Drums pound. Hi-hats futz. It's electric.

Dorrett shared a quote the new single:

This single is a not so subtle protest to the endless requirements you have to meet as a DIY AFAB fronted band. Our next piece of work is an extremely diverse collection of music. We wanted our first single back to show another side of us that perhaps our audience hasn't heard yet. 'What Is She For?' displays more objections and questions regarding classic gender roles, even more so than our previous work. Sonically it's more mature and fine tuned, while the production still emulates the fresh energy we have playing live.

"What Is She For" reminds me of that truthfully cringe monologue from Barbie and the Cramps' "What's Inside A Girl." But it's not virtue signaling or camp. It's in a lane of its own, powerful and persistent.
