Snail Mail's new album Ricochet arrives this Friday, and we'll have more to say about it soon. So far Lindsey Jordan has teased the follow-up to 2021's Valentine with singles like "My Maker" and "Dead End," and last night she ice skated over to 30 Rock to perform another new single called "Tractor Beam" on The Tonight Show. Today, the studio version of "Tractor Beam" is out, too.
Per Jordan, "Tractor Beam" is about "feeling othered while acknowledging that you’re spending a lot of your time and energy figuring out how to float away." It's the album's opener, and kicks things off with a Sundays jangle and some Born To Die string flourishes. "And a sour taste is all I’ll be/ In a bitter part of your memory/ You can cast my letters to the sea/ But you can’t find anyone else like me," Jordan sings in the track's final lines as it builds into a sweeping outro.
Jordan co-directed the "Tractor Beam" video with Elsie Richter on a farm with a bunch of cute animals. Check that out below along with her Fallon performance.
