Paul McCartney Briefly Banned From His Own Subreddit

Mary McCartney

The phrase "paulmccartney has been banned" is inherently funny and absurd, especially when it comes to his own subreddit. Sir Paul McCartney was never the world's most active Redditor, but the people running his Reddit account tried to post some photos and videos of a recent show in the r/PaulMcCartney subreddit over the weekend. But for reasons that remain mysterious, that thread was taken down, and McCartney's account was temporarily suspended.

Last week, Paul McCartney announced his new album The Boys Of Dungeon Lane and shared a single called "Days We Left Behind." Over the weekend, McCartney played two intimate no-phones shows at LA's Fonda Theatre, performing for star-studded audiences that reportedly included (deep breath) Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish, Tate McRae, Christina Aguilera, Steven Tyler, Anthony Kiedis, John Mayer, Renee Rapp, Finneas, Nat Wolff, Harrison Ford, Calista Flockart, Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Jason Bateman, Jon Hamm, Owen Wilson, Steve Carrell, Joey King, Emma Watson, Jake Shane, and McCartney's old bandmate Ringo Starr. Apparently, McCartney didn't play "Days We Left Behind" at either show.

As Dextero reports, McCartney's Reddit account, which is presumably run by his management, then tried to share some photos and videos of the shows by posting a Dropbox link on the McCartney subreddit. Every subreddit has its own rules. Maybe r/PaulMcCartney has guidelines against Dropbox links or self-promotion. Maybe someone thought McCartney's post violated the show's no-phones rule. Or maybe one of the moderators simply didn't believe that McCartney's account was really McCartney's account. Before that, McCartney's account had only been active when he did a 2020 AMA session to promote the McCartney III album.

McCartney's Reddit account has since been restored, but that thread he posted is still gone. The subreddit at least seems to realize that it's funny.
