My Precious Bunny – “KookieCannibal”

My Precious Bunny is the solo project of Lily Wolter, who plays in the great Brighton indie rock band Penelope Isles with her brother Jack. She recently announced her debut album A Moment In My Eyes and shared its dreamy acoustic lead single "I Go Up, You Go Down." Today we get another preview, the synth-streaked "KookieCannibal." It's a bit like if the Flaming Lips remade "Do You Realize??" for the Drive soundtrack, and its video — directed by Wolter herself — costars a young girl named Penny Kavanagh-Brough.

Here's Wolter's statement on the track:

Prior to recording the album with Allister Kellaway (Last Living Cannibal), we met up one rainy afternoon in 2022 for a jam at my studio in Portslade. We messed around with the Roland String synth and some Logic drum samples, with no idea we were starting something that would eventually become an album we’d make together a few years later. I took the demo home and wrote some average place-hold lyrics. Alli did the same and sent it back to me with the most ‘Allister Kellaway’ synth top line for the end using his Korg Ms20. I fell head over heels for that particular moment and it takes me to a brand new place every time I hear it. I re-wrote the lyrics when we were making the album together in 2024, as a reflection on when we used to play gigs together in the Isle of Man as kids and the beautiful optimism we all carried. The chorus features my brother, Jack Wolter (Penelope Isles/Cubzoa), as we sing, ‘like back in the day, will we make it rain?’ The verse is me talking to Alli, ‘did you play the song?’ after I first sent the demo back with vocals, then wanting him to do something ‘fuzzy and long’ at the end - which he did, so perfectly!
