Hey, it's finally happening! For months, we've been getting teasers and rumors for a new album from critically beloved pop star Olivia Rodrigo. Today, she makes it official. Her third album is called you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, and it's coming out June 12.
Beyond that, we don't know too much about Rodrigo's next album. There's no single, though the lead time suggests that she'll release at least one before the album comes out. There's no tracklist. The press release says that Rodrigo recorded the album with producer Dan Nigro, her creative partner on her first two albums. This is not a surprise. In a press release, she gives this not-very-revealing quote: "I am so proud of this record and I can't wait for you to hear it."
It's a bit of a surprise that Rodrigo veered away from the four-letter naming convention of her previous LPs, 2021's Sour and 2023's Guts. Fans speculated that the new one would be called Love, but no, she's doing an entire lowercase sentence this time. A recent British Vogue cover story included a few nebulous descriptions of her new songs, and the Cure's Robert Smith said that he's been in the studio with her. Also, Rodrigo recently released an excellent cover of the Magnetic Fields' "The Book Of Love" on the benefit compilation HELP(2).
