This morning, my entire social media feed is mad about a New York Times article with this viciously stupid headline: "They Pay $34 for Burgers. Should Their Child Care Be Free?" That's how these fucking guys always want to frame it. Annoying rich people exist, so nobody anywhere should ever get anything for free. Don't bring that shit up around Comrade Cardi.
Cardi B has always had good politics; please recall the campaign video that she made with Bernie Sanders in 2019. She's rich, and she deserves free childcare, too! That's the "universal" part of "universal child care"! This morning Cardi appears alongside fellow New York rapper and all-around charming celebrity Zohran Mamdani, the man who just became the first Democratic Socialist mayor of Cardi's hometown, in one of the extremely charming social-media videos that have become Mamdani's trademark.
In that video, Mamdani and Cardi discuss New York City's new 2-K program, which extends free childcare to two-year-olds. The program is going to have a jingle, and Cardi is going to help judge it. If that's just an excuse to get Mamdani and Cardi on camera together, that's good enough for me. Watch it below.
This was not the mayor's only video interaction with a charming New York rapper this week! A few days ago, Mamdani appeared on the latest episode of Action Bronson's YouTube show Fuck, That's Delicious. The two of them sat down together at the Brooklyn Yemeni restaurant Jannat Aden, and Bronson challenged Mamdani to a 6AM workout, telling him, "I have the elegance and grace of Zinedine Zidane Zizou." Banter ensues. It's a magnificent piece of internet content, and it's yours to consume below.
