We love Finnish screamo here at Stereogum. OK, that's a little broad. More specifically, I've enjoyed everything I've heard from the Jyväskylä-based band Alas. That includes "Hän pukeutui aurinkoon," a new track that hit their Bandcamp today.
Alas say "Hän pukeutui aurinkoon" is a preview from an upcoming album, and as a sonic promo campaign for the rest of the record, it's doing a fantastic job. The song begins with gorgeous plaintive arpeggios, then it's off to the races. Halfway through, it bottoms out into an acoustic-guitars-and-piano situation, thus beginning the requisite slow-build to Valhalla. This is the kind of elegant epic I was hoping for when I pressed play. Listen below.
