Allegra Krieger Shares Surprise New “Noisy/Instrumental” Album As gentle boxer

When she records under her own name, Allegra Krieger tends to make spare, contemplative music. She released her most recent album Art Of The Unseen Infinity Machine in 2024, and she's been plenty busy since then. Last year, she shared Relief, an album of voice-memo demos, as an LA wildfire fundraiser. Her demo "See Through" just came out on the massive Palestine Children's Relief Fund benefit Just Cause Vol. 2, and it was one of our favorite songs of last week. She's really good at making singer-songwriter music, but she also makes other music that doesn't fit into that mold. She contains multitudes.

Today, Allegra Krieger shared a new album called my heart is a gentle boxer. This time around, she's billing herself under the seemingly contradictory name gentle boxer, not as Allegra Krieger. In the Bandcamp alert email for the record, Krieger says, "here's an album i made this winter- it's some of my noisy /instrumental music." Krieger produced the album and played almost all the instruments. I'm on my first listen now, and it's a glitchy soundscape that combines electronic and acoustic instrumentation. Every once in a while, her voice appears. It's often pretty, but it's a very different kind of pretty than her usual stuff. Hear it for yourself below.

my heart is a gentle boxer is out now, and you can get it at Bandcamp. Krieger says that she's got "a lot more music coming sometime soon."
