Holy Motors are a band from Estonia named after a surreal French art film, but the music that they make is dreamily mythic Americana in the Mazzy Star/Cowboy Junkies mode. That's fun to think about! For a while now, Holy Motors have been missing in action. Way back in 2018, the band's debut album Slow Sundown appeared in our Album Of The Week column. They followed it with 2020's Horse and a few stray singles, including a 2022 cover of Delaney And Bonnie's "Superstar," and now they're back with their first new music in four years.
In recent years, Holy Motors have been playing shows, and frontwoman Eliann Tulve served as a touring member of the Jesus And Mary Chain, which is cool. Today, the band releases the new single "Heaven's Night," a blurry and atmospheric tune that fits neatly into the band's aesthetic. In a press release, Holy Motors describe the song as "a small-town love song about a love that has become dull and tedious. In search of fun and a new feeling, anything works for one night, only to wake up missing the arms of the one you call your baby." Check it out below.
