Lots Of Hands – “Grapevine”

Lucie Day

Billy Woodhouse and Elliot Dryden, the Newcastle-upon-Tyne duo known as Lots Of Hands, released their Fire Talk debut into a pretty room early last year. They've since seen their 2020 album mistake go TikTok-viral, leading to a streaming surge and a deluxe reissue. Now they're preparing for a co-headline tour with fellow viral artist Hudson Freeman, and they've got a new song to share.

Perhaps not coincidentally, today's single "grapevine" returns Lots Of Hands to the lo-fi aesthetic heard on mistake. The song matches a grungy minor-key chord progression with eerie noise, falsetto vocals, and a drumbeat that feels bashed-out and electronic at the same time. It's a little bit DIIV, a little bit quickly, quickly. The opening lyrics are intriguing: "What you gonna do honey when the engine stops/ I’m gonna get out the car and start my walk/ Where you gonna sleep baby when your bed's on fire/ I’m gonna lay my head down beneath your star."

The "grapevine" video is directed by Lauren Delaney. "We loved making this video with our friend Lauren," the band says. "Shoutout to Alex and Liam for having a kick about with us and the cows at Nunsmoore Park for chilling with us." Watch below.
