Mark Kozelek, who performs as Sun Kil Moon and previously led the Red House Painters, faced sexual misconduct allegations from at least 10 women in investigative reports published at Pitchfork in 2020 and 2021. Kozelek has consistently denied the allegations against him, and he has continued to tour and record. This September, he's scheduled to play shows across Canada. The promoter, Modo Live, turned off comments on the April 14 Instagram post announcing the tour. But people in Halifax had some feedback on the decision to bring Kozelek to town.
In Halifax, Kozelek was scheduled to close out his Sun Kil Moon tour Sept. 15 at the Seahorse Tavern, part of a larger entertainment complex called 2037 Gottingen. The venue has now canceled that performance, citing feedback from patrons. In a post on Instagram, venue management describes the Sun Kil Moon booking as a "misstep" and that they "strive to create a space where all are safe and where your concerns are met with responsibility and care." Here's their message:
We at 2037 Gottingen strive to create a space where all are safe and where your concerns are met with responsibility and care. We have decided we will not be moving forward with the September 15th booking of Sun Kil Moon at The Seahorse Tavern. Listening to our community is of the utmost importance and we are grateful to those who brought this misstep to our attention and apologize to anyone who felt their voice was left unheard.
We thank you for your patience while our team navigated the feedback surrounding this booking, and we will use the lessons learned in this experience to continue to make 2037 Gottingen a safe, fun, and transparent space to support and enjoy!
For anyone who purchased tickets and has questions regarding refunds you can send us a DM or get in contact with Modo Live Official directly.
The comments are also turned off on the post announcing the cancellation. Kozelek is touring in support of Sun Kil Moon's new Murals EP.
