Rostam will release his long-awaited album American Stories two weeks from today, and he's heading out on tour this month to support it. That tour itinerary unfortunately just got thinner; several shows have been scrapped due to logistical issues.
In an email to ticketholders for the canceled gigs, which has been posted on Reddit, Rostam writes that they were canceled due to logistical issues, which seemingly are related to the availability of his band members. "The kind of show I want to play for you is an ambitious one," he writes. "The ensemble of musicians bringing my album to life is a unique one with skillsets I can't easily replicate with other musicians. Rather than bring you a show that doesn't do the music justice we've made the difficult choice to cancel this date."
Eight previously shows have disappeared from Rostam's website, including his scheduled gigs in Boise, Salt Lake City, Denver, Philadelphia, Saxapahaw, Atlanta, Nashville, and Austin. The remaining dates are still a go.
Before the tour properly kicks off, Rostam is hosting sold-out screenings of American Stories: A Concert Film in New York on May 5 and Los Angeles on May 11. The film features Rostam and a six-piece band performing songs from the new album at Sound City Studio A in Van Nuys. The screenings will include a Q&A with Rostam and director Antony Muse, plus a live performance.
Here's the email message that was posted to Reddit, which relates to the canceled date in Saxapahaw, NC:
Hello,
I wanted to reach out to you directly about my show in Saxapahaw.
The kind of show I want to play for you is an ambitious one. It brings me no joy to say that logistics no longer allow me to bring the American Stories tour to Haw River Ballroom on June 22nd.
The ensemble of musicians bringing my album to life is a unique one with skillsets I can't easily replicate with other musicians. Rather than bring you a show that doesn't do the music justice we've made the difficult choice to cancel this date.
Cancelling a show is not something I take lightly, so it's with a heavy heart that I inform you of it. In spite of this, I have a desire to bring fans together in a different way, since the show is no longer possible.
I would like to send you a signed photo to express my gratitude for supporting me.
