Vorhex Angel (Ex-JEFF The Brotherhood) Announce New Album Drain: Hear “Okie’s Song I”

For many years, brothers Jake and Jamin Orrall comprised the excellent Nashville garage-psych band JEFF The Brotherhood. In recent years, they've launched a new project. In 2024, the Orrall brothers teamed up with Silver Synthetic's Kunal Prakash for a band called Vorhex Angel. Although official live footage distributed a few months back suggests the group is a noisy, hallucinogenic power trio, their new single out this week is much softer and prettier.

The track is called "Okie's Song I," and it belongs to Drain, the new Vorhex Angel album dropping this June, the follow-up to January debut album Heavenly. (Yes, this band moves quickly.) "Okie's Song I" is a simple but powerful rock 'n' roll slow jam that Jake calls "the most composed of the songs on Drain." He continues, "The lyrics are about the frustration of being caught in a negative pattern, a feedback loop. I remember getting chills hearing Kunal’s solo in playback."

You, too, may get chills hearing that solo, which does indeed rip. "I had this group of chords around for a long time and played it with lots of approaches but never shared it live or on a record,” Prakash says. "I always had a feeling the best way to use it would be with Jake and Jamin when the time was right."

The time is right! Watch Rett Rogers' video for "Okie's Song I" below, where you'll also find that Vorhex Angel live footage and a stream of Heavenly.
