It's a good thing that Tracey Nelson's album Hercules is set to come out in the middle of summer. The New York singer-songwriter makes indolent, unhurried music that captures the beautiful indolence of laying around on a day when it's just too hot to go outside or do anything productive. MJ Lenderman and Colin Miller produced the LP, and it's got contributions from members of Wednesday, Hotline TNT, and Lenderman's band. We've already heard "Dolly's Coat," "Just Shoot Me Now," and the title track, and now Nelson shares another one.
Nelson's new song "86" is a pretty acoustic number that's full of county touches like fiddle and steel guitar. I really like the way Nelson's voice cracks on it. Hell Films directed the video, in which Nelson spends time at hotels, watches wrestling, and hangs out with some very cute dogs. Check it out below.
Hercules is out 7/10 on Perennial/K.
