Big Fat Head Announce New Album Global Voyeur: Hear Four Tracks

Big Fat Head have been kicking around my state for quite some time now. The group got started nearly a decade ago in Athens, Ohio, where I attended Ohio University once upon a time. (Sadly, my college years were way more than a decade ago.) Back then the band was more like Nate Wilder's solo project. But in the post-COVID years, Big Fat Head took root in Columbus and became more of a unit. At this point they're up to six members. Opening for Water From Your Eyes a few weeks ago, they were formidable.

It's tough to pinpoint exactly what this band sounds like. It's alternative rock, I guess? Or maybe art-pop? It's fanciful stuff, catchy but never really sounding like accessibility is a core tenet of the operation. Things shift significantly from song to song, too. Today they announced Global Voyeur, their new album dropping in July, and four tracks from the thing are already streaming. All of them present slightly different variations of the Big Fat Head aesthetic.

The first two songs on the album, "Kicking My Own Ass" and "Yesyesyes," both have greats titles, and both are among the songs released thus far. Also available for your ears are "Paradox" and "Revolution." It makes some kind of sense that they opened for Water From Your Eyes, another band with a playful, eclectic approach, though they'd make even more sense alongside This Is Lorelei. Listen below, and make sure you don't get singed by those hot saxophone licks.

Global Voyeur is out 7/24 on Clean Demon Records. Pre-order it here.
