Pinkshift – “When We Were Friends”

Baltimore pop-punkers Pinkshift are on a seriously prolific run right now. They released their album Earthkeeper last August, then followed it with the single "Snow" a few months later. Today, they drop a new song called "When We Were Friends," a pogo anthem about post-breakup clarity. Here's what they say about it:

This song was just called “Friends” for the longest time. It’s a story about getting kicked to the curb when there was a new relationship in my friend’s life. I wanted to share a story about how valuable friendship is, even though we might take friendships for granted. It’s easy to fall into the trap of watering romantic relationships that are exciting and new and leaving your friends out to dry, assuming that friends will always be there. But your friends who have been there with you through everything deserve the same love, attention, and care you would give someone new.

That sounds like me, when my best friend from high school got a girlfriend. The band directed their own very fun video for "When We Were Friends," and it shows bandleader Ashrita Kumar having a bad day. Things get better, though — partly through rocking out with bandmates but also just kind of ambiently through being in Baltimore, the greatest city in the world. I think the live footage is from when they played outside at the Inner Harbor last year. Below, check out that clip and the dates for Pinkshift's upcoming UK tour with Heart Attack Man.
