Once again, Mike D is getting on the mic. A couple of weeks ago, Mike D released his solo single "Switch Up," the first new music from any Beastie Boy in 15 years. Recently, Mike has been playing shows with Very Nice Person, the band led by his sons Skyler and Davis Diamond, and he recorded "Switch Up" with them. That song wasn't a one-off. Today, Mike hits us with another one.
Much like "Switch Up," "What We Got" has that Beastie Boys funk all over it. It's got hazy samples, fuzzy guitars, and echo-drenched vocals. Mike talks about his million-dollar lingo and being a retired MC who needs a plan B. It's pretty good! The song comes out of the same studio session as "Switch Up." Mike D and Very Nice Person recorded it with SZA producers Carter Lang and Tyran Donaldson, as well as musicians Jason Lader, Benjamin Pacheco, and Knox Fortune.
Mike D plays the first of two shows at a Brooklyn skating rink tonight, and he just announced a European tour. Below, ch-check out "What We Got" and Mike D's tour dates.
