The Boys Of Dungeon Lane is the name of Paul McCartney's new album revisiting his Liverpool coming of age, due out this Friday. It's also the name of a new interview special available to watch on Amazon Live and in the Amazon Music app as of 11 a.m. ET today, in which McCartney is interviewed by actor Paul Mescal, who is playing him in the upcoming Beatles biopics directed by Sam Mendes.
The interview focuses on the backstories behind songs on the new album. Specifically, Macca unpacks "Down South," "Home To Us," "Lost Horizon," "Salesman Saint," and "Days We Left Behind." We are promised revelations about McCartney's songwriting as well as early memories of his parents and Beatles bandmates. Charlotte Wells served as director.
Mescal has provided this boilerplate quote about the experience: "It was one of the greatest personal and professional privileges of my life to sit down with Paul. To hear the stories behind The Boys Of Dungeon Lane. To hear about his creative process. It’s a day I’ll never forget." Will it be unforgettable for you, the viewer, as well? Only one way to find out.
McCartney has made some high-profile appearances in the lead-up to the new album. He was the musical guest on the SNL season finale and the surprise final guest on Stephen Colbert's Late Show, returning to the site of the Beatles' American breakthrough performance. On Colbert, McCartney dubbed Mescal "very cute" but declared himself cuter. He recently shared the Dungeon Lane single "Home To Us," his first-ever duet with Ringo Starr.
