The mysterious TikTok gods have smiled upon She & Him. Eighteen years ago, the indie film star Zooey Deschanel started making music with the indie music star M. Ward. They called themselves She & Him, and the first song that they recorded together was "I Thought I Saw Your Face Today," a playfully mellow post-breakup song that Deschanel wrote. At the time, She & Him's debut album Volume One was well-received, and the duo have had a nice run as an intermittently active musical unit. But now, they're bigger than they've ever been. Somehow, the TikTok kids found "I Thought I Saw Your Face Today."
This year, "I Thought I Saw Your Face Today" blew up and became She & Him's first-ever Hot 100 hit, climbing all the way to #40. She & Him themselves didn't do anything to bring this about. It's just one of those things. But they're taking advantage. Previously, the duo hadn't played any live shows since 2022, when they released their Brian Wilson tribute album Melt Away. Now, they're gearing up for a tour that'll take them to the All Things Go festival in September.
Last night, She & Him were Jimmy Kimmel Live! musical guests, and it was their first performance anywhere in almost four years. They sounded as warm and sweet as ever, and an already-nostalgic song now has an extra throwback patina to it. Below, check out their performance and their tour dates.
