The Avalanches, the great veteran Australian production crew, have lately been teasing a follow-up to their 2020 album We Will Always Love You. A few weeks ago, they dropped the single "Together," which features Nikki Nair, Jessy Lanza, & Prentiss. Now, they've shared the full version of a track that initially appeared on past collaborator Jamie xx's 2024 album In Waves.
The Avalanches and Jamie xx already teamed up for 2020's "Wherever You Go" and 2024's "All You Children." "Every Single Weekend," a funky and evocative track that the Avalanches and Jamie xx made together, first appeared as a minute-long interlude on In Waves. In a press release, the Avalanches say, "We’ve loved collaborating with Jamie xx over the years. His In Colour album reignited our passion for sampling, and this track is all about letting go, forgetting the 9-5 grind, and enjoying every single weekend."
"Every Single Weekend" has an excellent video from director Jonathan Zawada, and it plays out as an extended and extremely bleak joke. I'd ruin it by saying what happens, so just watch it below.
