"Blast Off (Blast Off) Blast Off" is an objectively funny song title, and I'm not likely to forget it anytime soon. Too bad I can't say the same thing about the band name Hammok. It would be bad enough if a different band called Hammock didn't just release an album of their own, but this current situation just isn't sustainable. We simply cannot have indie bands called Hammok and Hammock operating at the same time. It's not fair to music bloggers. We are human beings, which means that we are easily confused. You can't expect remember the difference between Hammok and Hammock. It's like the world is laying traps for us, just so the comments section can dunk on us whenever we fuck something up.
Not today, fuckers! I'm doing this shit right! Hammok, from Oslo, don't share much beyond a nearly identical band name with Hammock, from Nashville. Hammok are a power trio who make fast, dizzy, dazed post-hardcore, a truly spirited skronk. On Friday, they'll release their extremely fun new album When Does This Place Become Our Scene, and we've posted their songs "The Scene" and "Tap Water." Yesterday, they shared "Blast Off (Blast Off) Blast Off," which is everything that the title would lead you to expect.
"Blast Off (Blast Off) Blast Off" is a tangled rush with clapping parts that remind me of a Scandinavian Q And Not U. It's got a fun, sweaty music video that director Matias Hammersborg shot at a Hammok house party. Check it out below.
When Does This Place Become Our Scene is out 6/5 on Sargent House.
